The module requires a high level of self-reliance to explore the business idea based on a client brief. Students develop an understanding of the role of business start-ups, business growth and development. This module introduces students to the role of the project manager, the nature of projects and how to manage them successfully, focusing on the linear project in which the project output is clearly defined at the commencement of the project. Such projects are typical in the construction industry but can be found widely in business organisations.

Our courses all have various opportunities to take on work placements or shorter internships to prepare for graduation. This module provides learners with a solid foundation in the concept of sustainability and its role in contemporary business practice. Learners will develop knowledge of a range of sustainable business issues recognising sustainable business opportunities and how companies can develop these to create competitive advantage. This module introduces learners to big data and business analytics and their application to real-world challenges in international business. Learners identify valid reliable tools and methods to collect analyse and visualise data and explore how that data is utilised and managed to support decision-making in a range of industries. You’ll choose from a range of optional modules, exploring topics such as global marketing, company accounts, managing change, business analysis, and business law.

Although some of the basic principles of project management may still apply, large-scale complex projects involve different managerial challenges that are related to their size, significance and uncertainty. The aim of this module is to provide students with the fundamental aspects of managing complex projects. It provides an encompassing view and understanding of the challenges and causes of risks in managing projects that is necessary to effectively drive change in organisations and the wider society. The module will provide an extensive overview on methodologies for supporting decision making within complex systems, with particular emphasis on industry and business management. A large set of quantitative methods from Decision Sciences will be presented, including fundamentals of Operational Research, Simulation tools and development of tailored Decision Support Systems in semi-structured management problems.

The Module is a core element of some programmes in the faculty of Business and Law. It represents a significant final element of study where students can develop their own academic and intellectual interests. The module also allows students to develop their skills in research and independent work with the support of academic supervisors. It allows students to draw together different aspects of their study and will be required to select a topic to research design implement a study report the findings and draw appropriate conclusions.
